Description

My half of a character trade with ~ether75, for the group :iconthought-up: You can see Ether's half here ---> [link]

This is Ether's character Tomasi, who is a near-future runner who delivers packages "outside the system", a la Mirror's Edge or Fallout: New Vegas - which is awesome. I gathered from his description that he kind of lives wherever he can and is on the move a lot out on the streets, and I immediately thought of this image - just a guy living a rough, kind of transient life, sitting out of the rain with a cigarette after a hard day with tomorrow not looking any better. (Note: I don't know if he actually smokes - he probably doesn't, since he runs around for a living - that was just a prop I put in.) It was a nice chance for me to do a human character in a modern-to-semi-modern setting, since it's not something that normally crops up in my work, and I had a lot of fun with it. I also spent a lot of the work-time listening to "Real Folk Blues" ([link]) of Cowboy Bebop fame, which felt like a good fit for the tone I wanted.

Good things? Well, I thought the background looked too rustic and out-of-place, but I'm very happy with it with the addition of the wires bolted in and duct-taped to poles - it looks like New York or San Fransisco, which were "big" cities way before the modern era and had to have new technology just shoehorned in. I also like the lighting and more muted colors on this one. Bad things? Well, I put his bandana on the wrong arm (sorry!) and I feel like his face could have had more intense lighting. His scar also came out very light, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad - a lot of scars are just slightly lighter then the skin around them, unless they are scars from burns or something similar. So, I guess it's up to Ether whether it works or not.

Thanks for trading Ether! I hope you like it. ^_^

Wow, you did a fantastic job here! The pose and the expression of that character really emphasize the whole 'outlaw-courier' feeling. And the background is pure win. So many details!!! I fail at backgrounds. Lovely work!
If I may ask, do you use a tablet or a mouse?
